Our Team
With Varia, you get peace of mind in the knowledge that the people you have entrusted with your structured cabling and security systems are highly trained and experienced professionals. Varia Systems management and account team has over 75 years of combined experience in structured cabling industry. All our projects are managed by one of our on-staff BiCSi-certified RCDD (Registered Communications Distribution Designer), and all of our technicians are at least Level II BiCSi-certified. That means our personnel not only have the latest information and education, but they prove it with rigorous knowledge assessments.
Experience & Training
Every member of our technical staff has completed industry standard training to ensure the highest level of quality on every project. Varia incorporates extensive in-house training under supervision of an RCDD, TPM, with direct BICSI training and factory direct manufacturer training to provide our customers a level of unmatched quality. Additionally, Varia owns and operates a state-of-the-art training facility within our premises. This facility showcases all of the systems that we install and service, including copper and fiber cabling systems, card access control systems, CCTV systems and much more. All of Varia's technicians are cross-trained in the systems that we support. This ensures that our technicians will be able to handle all of your on-site the service needs without time wasting call-backs.
Executive Team
R. Douglas Horensky, RCDD
President
Douglas Horensky founded Varia Systems in 2002 and oversees the companies structured cabling and integrated security divisions. His forward thinking leadership has guided the company from a 2 person start-up to a 50+ person organization today. He has over 20 years experience in all aspects of low voltage contracting including installation, project management, sales, and senior management. Prior to founding Varia, Doug spent 5 years as the Baltimore branch manager at TEXEL Corporation and 9 years at Diversified Control Systems. His deep knowledge of the integrated security industry, coupled with the structured cabling industry has allowed Varia to grow into a multi-disciplined integrator. Doug lives in Baltimore, MD with his wife and two children and enjoys music and boating on the Chesapeake Bay.
Brett Altberger, RCDD
Vice President of Operations
Brett Altberger oversees Varia’s operations and manages our technical resources in order to successfully serve our clients. Brett started his career as a Telecommunications Project Manager over 10 years ago at TEXEL Corporation. He combines his technical knowledge with strong business acumen to offer clients the highest possible level of service. He has successfully managed projects for notable firms including Northrop Grumman, Johns Hopkins University, Whiting-Turner Contracting, and Maxim Health Care. Brett is an individual member of BICSI and continues to stay up to date with the latest IT trends. He holds a BS in Business Management from Towson University. Brett is an accomplished guitar player and lives in Sparks, MD with his wife and two daughters.
