Previous Building Security Integration Work

Harbor East Campus & Legg Mason Tower

Products: S2 Security & Vicon

Varia designed and installed and IP based CCTV system for the six buildings at the Harbor East Campus in downtown Baltimore, including the new 25 story Legg Mason office tower. Varia installed a fiber optic backbone infrastructure along with a dedicated gigabit Cisco network to support the IP based system. The new Legg Mason tower and parking garage has over 150 IP cameras. The surrounding buildings have over 150 analog cameras running back to IP enabled DVRs within each building. All cameras transmit across the campus wide fiber optic network back to a new security command center with 30 video monitors. An IP based virtual matrix with keypad controls was installed to manage how the video is viewed and played back from all buildings within the command center. All video is also available for viewing remotely across a VPN connection into the CCTV system nucleus.

The card access system consists of approximately 100 multi-class card readers located throughout the new Legg Mason Tower. The readers identify a combination of iClass and Proximity card technologies. In addition, there are 7 lanes of optical turnstiles that Varia installed in the lobby of the building. The turnstiles are controlled by integrated card readers. A custom software interface was developed between the S2 access system and the Otis Elevator destination dispatch system. When a card holder uses their card at a turnstile, the system automatically calls an elevator destined for the “home floor” which is programmed for the card holder. A digital display built into the turnstile directs the card holder to the appropriate elevator.

MD State Police Forensic Science Laboratory

Varia designed and installed and IP based CCTV system and card access system for the new State Forensic Science Laboratory. The building has over 75 proximity card readers and 30 IP video cameras. The systems are monitored at the main facility with a back-up monitoring site at the local County Precinct building next door. A customized “Who's In” monitor was installed in the lobby of the to show which card holders are “In” the facility based upon the status of their access card.

WR Grace

Products: Entry-Master Security

Varia recently upgraded the WR Grace Curtis Bay campus from an older version of the Entry-Master card system to the most recent version. New control panels and proximity card readers were replaced for the entire system which encompasses 7 controlled buildings. Each building communicated over IP connections on the corporate LAN. The system is monitored at a fully staffed guard station at the main guard entrance.

Hogan & Hartson

Products: Entry-Master Security, S2 Security, DSC Alarm Panels & Aiphone Intercom

Varia was tasked with designing a security and card access system for Hogan & Hartson at their new showcase Baltimore office to match the operation of their Washington, DC system. The installation covered 2 floors of a new downtown hi rise office building. Varia integrated existing DC access cards into the new S2 Security card access system. System components included: proximity card readers, IP based control panels, time zone specific alarm reporting, and visitor intercom system.

Campbell & Company

Products: Entry-Master, DSC Alarm Panels, Fargo Photo Badging

Varia installed a state of the art card access system for money management firm Campbell & Company’s new corporate headquarters. The installation included over 75 HID proximity card readers in an IP based access control environment. Additional integrated components included: an intrusion detection system, a Fargo photo badging system, and emergency call boxes located throughout the parking garage.
